Heat 3 @ Lake Macquarie

pb110049.JPGHeat 3 got off to a shaky start with no wind on the Saturday but the racers were blessed on Sunday with four races held in light to medium winds; despite the weed! Check out the results and Photo Gallery as well as the GPS Action Replays… Photos by the ever present, on the spot Angela Nelson.

Can we please have some more racing when the wind comes. Why finish at 3.25pm real time 2.25pm? Sun goes down at 8pm.

hate to agree with ricardo so i won’t.

    but allow me to vent my spleen at the slips as a regatta site. cons;
    1 no dunny
2 ***** weed every single time we have ever raced there. Not just little weeds but ****** huge ones in 7 lines across the water, trained to hone in on my fin & stick to it like glue. I know muzza will say it not always like that but i am old & only have so long to live, can’t afford to wait forever.
3 belmont boats usually racing & all over the place. that this was not bad on w/end was due to astute course setting. it remains a problem there
4 we go there mainly in hope of nor easter but that means a long haul down to the start & forget about gear changes.

    PROS
5 it is near muzzas house.

    6. gets better nor easter than other spots on lake.

7 the ticks like ricardo more than me. figure that one out.

Personally i would vote for marmong if any forecast of decent noreaster or southerly or westerly. wind not as strong in nor easter but not as much weed & not as many boats & start just off the clubhouse.

sorry if there was anyone i didn’t offend or insult, wind is getting up & i have to go.

    Couple of things…
1 After the skiffs had finished racing we could have moved the course up the bay and enjoyed, flat water, no weed and a finish next to the rigging area. Problem was we had no idea when that area would be available and after 4 races, including 3 back to back + the beat back to shore, it killed our window to change course, race more and still let people drive home without worrying about fatigue. We also didn’t have the luxury of knowing the conditions would continue to improve, so choose to race while it was acceptable. (especially race 1, when we are always under pressure to get the 1st result away).

2 Remembering the amount of rain the week before the event, i can only assume the run off can create all sorts of undesirable water conditions? I imagine where ever we raced after that much rain would have had similar issues. FYI in Sydney it was westerly winds, which would have been no racing at all. So i think we were very lucky to have been in the right location on the day.

3 Valentine last year produced the best racing conditions of the season. Personally i think Lake Macquarie is a great venue, (and that is not just because i won)….hahaha

    well i’m very upset!

the northerners are getting very underhanded and claiming me as coming from Marmong Point (according to the overall) – i don’t think i’ve ever been so slapped in the face!

i might even have to write to Uncle Mike!

PS without places like Lake Maq – we wouldn’t really appreciate Jervis Bay! ;-)

another top event! its the people and the quality of the sailing that makes the weekend – not the venue

This was the event of the season!

Do you realise that nearly 6 people stayed out past 9.15pm on Saturday night?! That’s an enormous improvement from the event at Jervis Bay when only 2 people stayed out past 8.30pm (that includes someone who had a 21st birthday the SAME night and some other guy who had a birthday).

Remember when sailors used to have a few drinks on a Saturday night at the pub and talk about the days racing till the pub closed at 12am ??? No, neither do I…

don’t be offended Mikey, oh bugger that, be offended. its not that Marmong wants you its just that they are keeping the 3rd spot warm for little sam, not as if you will have it for long eh & it is a drag changing all the details.

anyway, you come from wollongong, marmong would be an improvement on your resume.

go ahead & write to uncle mike, it may just be the first time he has ever had to think before defaming someone.

I hated the weed but i am enjoying these comments!!!…and yes, I am going for Marmong as well!!

Only 2 racers made the effort on Saturday night and they ended up 1st and 2nd. Could mid event partying be the secret? Maybe a road trip to Newcastle is on the cards during Heat 4, in a couple of weeks time?
On a more serious note, maybe a preselected venue for Saturday night (24nov) would be a good idea? Anyone got any ideas of a venue?

I hate to say this…… BUT I think Allison could do with a shave…..maybe its a European thing.
